Hi, there! I’m Grace and this where I share my passion for finding the world’s best ice cream — or, as I’ve been calling it since childhood, “ouce cream.” When I’m feeling particularly adventurous, I’ll try my hand at making ice cream at home. When an experiment is successful, I’ll share the recipe here.
Why ice cream? For me, ice cream = memories. Memories of summer vacations in New England with my family, of ice-cream socials at church, and of one of my first-ever jobs (I scooped ice cream at Friendly’s during high school). Ice cream is not only delicious, it is fun. No matter how busy or stressful life can be, ice cream can provide a moment of escape. A chance to reconnect with your inner kid.
When I’m not thinking about ice cream, you will find me working at an environmental nonprofit in Washington, D.C. Even though I’m not particularly athletic or outdoorsy, I want to help protect America’s most beautiful and sacred places. Luckily, I get to visit one of the most beautiful areas in the country, the Pacific Northwest, regularly. I’m a newlywed, and my husband (“K”) was born and raised in the Seattle area. I grew up on the other side of the country in Massachusetts. But, together, we share a love for travel around the country and world. To be honest, K might love traveling even more than I do. Together, we’ve visited every continent besides Antarctica, which we hope to cross off the list soon. The idea for this blog originated in 2011 during a trip to Rome. I was eating gelato a few times per day, and each gelateria seemed better than the last. I thought to myself “Wouldn’t it be great if I had some way to document this ice cream and share my recommendations?” Well, here it is!
As you’ll see, I think storytelling and ice cream go hand-in-hand. Most blog posts begin with a story or update on my life. As my husband often reminds me, I can be wordy. If detailed stories just aren’t your thing, please skip to the end of each post. There you’ll find my review and details about the ice cream, and occasionally a recipe to try at home.
I would LOVE to hear from you. What is your favorite ice cream shop? What flavor of Ben & Jerry’s can’t you live without? What ice cream flavors should I try to make? Please contact me!
Hi! I couldn’t find a way to reply to your post about Indian Pudding ice cream, so I’m writing here instead. In the post about making your own Indian Pudding ice cream, you mentioned that Rota Springs in Sterling MA would no longer be serving this flavor. Not sure when you penned that blog post, but I was at Rota Springs this week and it was on the menu and I tried it and I now have a new favorite ice cream flavor! I plan to try making your recipe at home in case this flavor does in fact become unavailable. Meanwhile, if you find yourself in Sterling MA in summer 2020 it’s worth stopping; they just might still have your beloved Indian Pudding!
